The Traveling Sweet Spot: 4 months - 18 months

To a brand new parent, traveling sounds like a nightmare.  But after a few months, you've got your routine down pat.  I'd like to take this time to encourage you to travel during your child's traveling sweet spot: ages 4 months to 18 months old.

In Brooklyn, NY - age 6 months old
I know it sounds crazy, but NOW (could be) the time for you to travel. Spoiler alert:  between the ages of 18months and 3 years old traveling has the potential to be torturous. This is due to the fact that your baby is now mobile and could potentially start (duh, duh, DUH....) climbing out of the pack 'n play.  I know. Because it's happened to us.  The will for that child to be near you in a new place often causes the non-climbers to start climbing! Until your toddler is secure sleeping in a "big boy/girl bed", there's a chance everyone will be very sleep deprived.

Hiking the Cinque Terra trail in Italy - age 18 months.

We're so lucky we've got great friends that we are comfortable traveling with. We all genuinely like each  other, so it's basically a dream.  Kids are ages 10 months - 4 years old. This portrait in the mountains of Colorado was intentional...too bad I can't keep a straight face:)

All that being said, there is NEVER a wrong time to travel.  Exposing your children to different cultures, communities, and landscapes is a genuinely rewarding experience.  So I say go for it. Book that tropical destination or ski trip.  You won't regret it!

Have you travelled with your wee one recently?  We'd love to hear from you! Any tips to share?
