Plan out your shots: Pinterest is your friend. Maybe you're a little too close, like I am? It's a love hate relationship. Either way, I scoured pinterest and found this darling shot that had to be recreated.
Time the session appropriately: We're most happy right after breakfast in this house. 10am was our preferred time. Normally nap at 10am? Don't schedule it then. And, I speak from experience here: DO NOT schedule a photo session 1 day after your child's well-check with vaccines (if that's your thing). This is what you get:
|Not that this little lady isn't just darling...this photo just didn't really capture her personality at 6 months old.|
Base your photos around your daily activities: Take pictures of things that you do around your house that are meaningful and routine. We read a ton. We bake a ton.
Have the props ready: Pizza dough was already made ahead and in the fridge ready to go. Keep things moving. The kids and the photographer will thank you!
Choose your location and dress appropriately. Remember, you're trying to capture your day-to-day living. Think authentically. Love being in your backyard? Take the photos there! Here is a great example of what not to do. I had this thing that I wanted pictures at a favorite hiking spot of ours. Awesome! We wore dress clothes. NOT awesome. This picture is totally not our family:
|We look like we're trying to be fancy. In the middle of the woods. Totally weird, right?|
